Crewing Contacts

Over the years I have met many people who have asked, "How can I get on to boats when I can not afford one of my own?"

At the same time I meet many yacht owners who are looking for crew. The tricky part is putting the two together.

Of course there may be a good reason the owner is always looking for crew! But most owners are safe, normal people and have reasonably well equipped vessels.

The intention of this part of the web site is to allow people seeking sailing experience and yacht owners to make contact and see if they are compatible. With over 1000 people using this site daily from all over the World, there are many people seeking a good crew member and many more who are looking for more experience.

Of course, anyone arranging to meet a potential crew or skipper should take some basic precautions and it is advisable to meet up before committing to a long cruise.

Anyone can make a good crew but you are more likely to be offered sea time if you have some basic qualifications, if you feel you could benefit from some professional training contact the British Offshore Sailing School.

You may be looking for crewing experience at weekends, for a specific race event (e.g. Cowes Week) or for a longer cruise. In most cases you will be expected to share the expenses of running the boat but this is something that should be arranged before the cruise begins.
