Power winches and windlasses.

If a problem develops with a power winch or anchor windlass, it may be necessary to stop its operation by cutting off its power supply.

Everyone on board should know how to do this. You never know who it may be that is caught up in the mechanism of the equipment. If they are the only one who knows how to cut the power, they will not be able to help themselves.

It is extremely rare that power equipment can not be stopped from the working station, but this simple precaution may make reduce the damage caused by a fault developing in the system.
